STCW Basic Safety Training

The Starting Point of Your Maritime Career

Basic Safety Training, or BST is the starting point for persons seeking employement in the maritime industry. This is the credential the U.S. Coast Guard requires prior to issuing a Merchant Mariner's Document.

Fremont Maritime's Basic Safety Training series is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard as meeting the requirements of Table A-VI/1 of the STCW Code. Our course is also recognized by many other nations for mariners serving on vessels flying their flags.

February 6-10

Mariners who have previously completed a Coast Guard-approved originial or refresher Basic Safety Training course may attend the Basic Safety Training refresher Course.

The BST Refrehser includes all of the practical training and demonstrations of competency of the five-day program, but dramatically reduces the amount of time spent in the classroom. As a refresher course, less time is spent in class on theoretical aspects of the training than in the comparable original program. Candidates must still sucessfully pass written exams on each topic in order to receive a certificate of completion.
