Proficency in Survival Craft (Lifeboatman)

Course Description
This 4-day course covers all aspects of survival in accordance with the
newest regulations prescribed by IMO and the United States Coast
Guard. The underway training takes place aboard a contemporary
50 person motor enclosed lifeboat. The course covers GMDSS, EPIRB,
STCW and emergency stations, abandon ship, boat work under oars,
seamanship under sail, launching appliances, SOLAS regulation,
life rafts, ancillary equipment, life saving signals, and first aid.
Course Objective
A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to react in a correct manner during an emergency. He or she
will know what steps can be taken to improve the chances of surviving in the water or survival craft. The trainee will learn the basic principles involved to adopt and improvise
and thereby survive.He or she will also be prepared to take measures appropriate to personal survival
and to the survival of others by using survival equipment correctly. The trainee will acquire knowledge which will in some instances enable he or she to identify and correct defects and thus prevent injuries.
Admission
Candidates must be 18 years of age and have
completed 12 months of sea service.Students
must be in good health and have no physical
limitations which could jeopardize their safe
completion of the in-water components
of the course.
